Discovering Gabbiani Beach
Close to Le Due Sorelle beach, there is another one characterized by the presence of boulders: once there was the Slaves' cave, closed by a landslide at the beginning of the century. Many boulders prove the beauty of this cave which could be reached by boat directly from the sea. Its name comes from the use,the Saracens admiral- the so called Sabba- would have made of it. It seems that he was using it as storage and sorting center for the slaves he got after his attacks on the Adriatic sea, where he waited to get the kidnapping ransom money or to sell them. It was him, in 839 A.C. who destroyed the Romans and Greek remains of the city, devastating Ancona. In that occasion too he made many slaves; he also plundered some metal statues from the Trajan Arch. It is said that the incursions ended shortly after when a storm made him sinking with all its vessels.
