The Costarella
The Costarella is one of the most peculiar streets of Numana. Entirely made of steps, it was once inhabited by fishermen who daily crossed this evocative stairway to go down to the port.
The writer Cesare Romiti in his book "Guide remembrance of Numana" (1927) thus spake of "Costarella" : "….but to a certain stretch of Via Umberto (now Via Roma) two roads branch off, one on the left that leads to the beach, where they go to bathe the frequenters of Numana Alta, known with the name of the beach of San Lazzaro, or, more commonly, with that of Spiaggiuola; the other on the right, between a double row of small houses, officially named glue designation of Via della marina, but that nobody called so because that road ripidissima, that path improbable, as he had to call him Vico d'Arisbo, that at certain points reaches the slope of 24 or 25% comes from all call and from all known with the name Very eufemistico of "Costarella"
