The Tarta Day Project in Numana: An Experience of Conscious Tourism
Numana strengthens its bond with the marine ecosystem through the "Tarta Day" project, an initiative of high environmental and educational value that testifies to the area's commitment to marine fauna conservation. In collaboration with the Fondazione Cetacea of Riccione and the Traghettatori della Riviera del Conero, and within the framework of European programs such as IPA AdriaticNetCet, Numana becomes the setting for the reintroduction into nature of rescued and rehabilitated Caretta caretta sea turtle specimens.
The Initiative and Release Calendar – Summer 2026
Tarta Day is a public event that allows visitors and residents to witness the release of turtles, combining the emotion of a unique experience with raising awareness about environmental protection issues.
The programmed dates for the 2026 summer season are as follows:

Please note that, to ensure maximum protection and well-being of the specimens during a period characterized by intense nautical traffic, no releases are planned for the month of August.
Participation Modalities and Excursion Procedure
Ticket Purchase and Contribution to Conservation
Tickets to participate in the excursion can be purchased online through the official website of Traghettatori del Conero: traghettatoridelconero.it
The cost is €40 for adults and children over 2 years old. It is emphasized that a significant portion of the proceeds (50%) is donated to the Fondazione Cetacea of Riccione, directly supporting rescue, care, and research activities.
Excursion Program
The itinerary begins from the port of Numana with an indicative departure at 4:00 PM. After a approximately 30-minute boat trip, you will reach the Baia delle Due Sorelle. In this setting, the biologists from the Fondazione Cetacea will illustrate to participants the characteristics of the species and the history of the specimen to be released. This is followed by the culmination of the experience: the release of the turtle into its natural environment. The event concludes with the possibility of a swimming stop, before returning to the port of Numana, expected around 6:00 PM.
Regulations and Useful Information
To ensure the smooth running of the excursion and the well-being of the animals, participants are required to observe the following provisions:
It is not permitted to bring pets on board, including dogs of any size.
In case of adverse weather conditions or rough seas, the excursion will be postponed to the following day or to a future date.
