Dei Gabbiani

Description
Another beach is characterized by rocks near Due Sorelle. In the past this was the location of the “cave of slaves”, collapsed for a landslide at the beginning of the century.
Many people say how beautiful this cave was when you could reach it by sea. Maybe the name of the cave derives from the use the Saracenic admiral Sabba had of it. It’s said that he used the cave as a sorting place for the slaves he kidnapped during his incursions along the Adriatic coasts, waiting for someone who released or bought them.
It was Sabba who destroyed Ancona and all its Roman and Greek remains in 839 A.D., enslaving many people too. He even stole metal statues from the Trajan arch. A legend says that incursions ended only when he sank.

How to get there: by sea with a private boat.

La Vela

Description
It is so called for a rock shaped as a sail in front of the final part of the beach.
This is the last arch of coast where you can stay at the basis of the northern side of the Conero.
Behind it you can admire the wonderful Romanic abbey “Santa Maria di Portonovo”, which was built by Benedictines from 1034.

Features: pebbles and gravel

How to get there: by car, driving along “Strada Provinciale del Conero”, towards Portonovo. You have to take the street going down the side of the mount. As there are few car parks near the beach, traffic could be blocked. In that case you can take a bus from the parking on the top.
