Civil Defence

They are known as the “men in yellow”. They operate all year round in the civil defence/sea rescue in Numana. They have been working for more than 10 years under the direction of the coastguard and of the health aid, assuring help and care along in the Riviera del Conero. They have at disposal cutting edge instruments to cope challenging sea emergencies and have a landing area for helicopters on the beach, near the port.

“Safe Summer” project
The Municipality of Numana includes about 4.000 inhabitants in Winter and represents today one of the few “happy” areas where safety is guaranteed and criminal acts are rare.

In Summer the number of inhabitants rises a lot and in high season periods it arrives at 50/60.000. This means that safety becomes one of the most important issues, particularly cared by the municipality.

As a result, since 1999 every Summer Numana has been improving its services in order to guarantee safety and control to all its community. In addition, the local administration decided in Summer 2010 to enrol more soldiers in the Coastguard group in order to assure a higher control at the beach too.

“Safe Summer” project increases in Summer the number of the security forces involved. It uses a private night vigilance service, that is very important for preventing vandal acts in the lidos and for allowing people a night peaceful walk along the seaside.
In addition every day beaches are patrolled by local police and Guard coast as a precautionary action.

“Safe Summer” project includes also the action of the local Civile Defense, that represents one of the flagships of Numana.

The Civil Defense body has been operating in Numana for many years. It guarantees all year the safety of bathers and boats, and in Summer it is active night and day. Thanks to powerful means, its operators reach every beach of the Riviera, from Portonovo to Porto Recanati, in very little time. This means they guarantee protection also to areas that don’t belong to the Numana municipality.

Furthermore, it is important to underline that the Civil Defense gives assistance also to stricken ships and to sea species in difficulty, such as dolphins, turtles and whales, contributing to safeguard the natural beauty of this territory.

The aim of “safe Summer” project is not only guaranteeing the safety of inhabitants or tourists by increasing the number of operative security forces, but also putting into practice important precautionary measures. In this way, legacy can be kept at high levels, improving quality life, sea, land and road safety.
