ORIGIN AND MEANINGS OF THE NAME "NUMANA"
…The name of Numana could derive from “Sabini” (Numana=city of “Numani” people), that is the people who gave Rome its second king Numa Pompilo; or maybe from the quotation of Plinio or also from Greek.
The real meaning of Numana is “present of NU” (of the god RA or of the god of the Sun) but also “god protection”. It is almost sure that Sabines were to give Numana its name, because they were particularly faithful to NU.

NUMANA PEOPLE TEMPERAMENT REVEALED BY LANGUAGE
It seems that their temperament is based on tradition and sense of duty. They are concrete and minimalist, proud and characterized by analytical skills, biting judgements and reproach for dishonest and lazybones people.
Is it possible to know a bit better the character of the people of Numana by analyzing their language? This is the interesting question arose by Mr Marinelli in his book which is available for people who want to study deeply such a subject.
In general it is said that the temperament of "Numanesi" is quite conservative as well as their language (cfr. Numana dialect).
One aspect of their character appears in many sarcastic witticisms and in frequent antiphrasis (sentences that have an opposite meaning of the literal one) that characterize their biting irony.
On the whole if we analyze their words and proverbs, we learn that their temperament is based on tradition and sense of duty; it is concrete and minimalist, proud and characterized by analytical skills, biting judgements and reproach for dishonest and lazybones people.

NUMANA: THE DIALECT
Numana is located at the edge of 4 different linguistic stocks, so taking sometimes Gallic-italic features, sometimes those of Umbria and Tuscany or Umbria and Lazio, as the forth boundary is that of Veneto (without net limits as in the former examples).
