In a manuscript kept in the Numana parish and entitled “Platea”, that is to say the inventory of the parish church, you can read that “via della Torre” was called in the past “via San Giovanni” and the Tower “was used as a bell tower, but the lower part was used as a sacristy as well”. So we can imagine that the today Tower is what remains of the ancient San Giovanni parish church. The Tower is very important for Numana because it is the only medieval remain of the ancient city. The ruin has no more its shape of tower and now looks like an arch.
