Museums and caves
There is a labyrinth of caves under the historical centre of the town excavated in sandstone. For many years these caves were believed to be the ruins of ancient sandstones caves or even cellars used to store wine. More recent explorations, in-depth studies and finds discovered in opening routes for tourists let to the discovery of architectural and bas-relief decorations which hardly can be related to mere sandstone caves or storerooms: dome and vault shaped ceilings, circular chambers and columns with architectural details, decorations with friezes, ornaments and religious symbols were found throughout the caves.

The Frasassi Caves hypogeum complex represents one of the most fascinating and majestic underground routes in the world. The tourist route, which is equipped and easy to access, lasts approximately 70 minutes and extends over 1.5 km.

The International Museum of Accordions is located in Castelfidardo (AN).
Castelfidardo is considered the house of accordions, as in the 18th century the local craft-man Paolo Soprani manufactured the first prototype of the instrument and founded one of the first Italian factories of accordions.

The National Archaeological Museum of the Marche region is based in Ancona inside Ferretti palace which dates back to the 15th century. Osimo is a town with ancient origins, as a number of archaeological finds attest, and its past can be traced back to a time even more remote than the period of Roman colonization, a time which historians place at 157 B.C.
The sandstone hill upon which it rises conceals a thick maze of subterranean galleries, passageways and rooms carved out of the sedimentary rock at various levels and often interconnected by vertical shafts or wells, made accessible with handholds and footholds.
